Doisy Vedrines 2016
This morning saw a flurry of releases from petits chateaux and Sauternes. Amongst them were Doisy Vedrines and Filhot. Both kept their ex-negociant releases prices consistent with the previous year: €23.50 and €15 respectively.
Doisy Vedrines is being offered by the international trade at £285 per 12×75. In Sterling terms, this is a 14% increase on last year’s release price of £250. As the chart above shows, this positions it above all recent vintages available on the market which are all priced between £195-250.
The wine received a relatively strong score from Wine Spectator’s James Molesworth, who said it has “good energy for the vintage, with a range of tangerine, clementine, peach and pineapple flavours showing nice definition through the finish” (92-95). James Suckling called it, “tangy and fruity with a honey and lemon-rind character. Lots of orange peel, too” (91-92).
Filhot 2016
Filhot’s merchant release price of £177 per 12×75 places it below the average price of the previous ten vintages (£193). Still, other recent vintages might look favourable in comparison. The 2015, for example, has a score of 89-91 from Neal Martin and is available at a 15% discount to the most recent release.
Filhot 2016 has received a range of scores from critics. James Suckling, who awarded it 88-89, described it as, “A pretty young Sauternes with flan, dried-pineapple and lemon character.”
