Liv-ex Prices

Liv-ex is the largest – and only – independent database of fine wine prices, quoted by Bloomberg and Reuters as the industry standard.

With over 25 years of data collection, we have built an unrivaled historical dataset. Every day, we analyse 20 million lines of wine prices to keep it constantly refreshed and up to date. Our data empowers professional fine wine merchants worldwide, helping them accurately value wines and make informed buying and selling decisions.

From transaction-based prices unique to Liv-ex, such as Last Trade, Bid, and Offer (which reflects trading activity on the exchange from 600+ members) to the Market Price (sourced from wine businesses globally both within and beyond Liv-ex), our data gives you a competitive edge.

TRANSACTION-BASED PRICE DATA
Real-time and historic trading data from the world’s largest pool of wine wine liquidity.

  • Offer Price and Bid Price
The price at which Liv-ex trading members are currently bidding to buy or offering to sell the wine on the market. These prices are contractual obligations and a firm commitment to buy/sell.
  • Mid Price
The mid-point between the highest live bid and lowest live offer on the market, validated against additional data, including transaction prices and historical list prices. Mid-prices are used to calculate the Liv-ex indices and value the world’s leading fine wine funds.
  • Last Trade Price
The transaction price and date at which each wine was last bought and sold on the global marketplace. Please note: All Liv-Ex prices exclude taxes, commissions, and settlement fees, ensuring consistency for members worldwide.

MARKET-BASED DATA

These prices are not influenced by transactions on the exchange but are based on listings from both Liv-ex members and external sources

  • Market Price
The best listed price for a wine in the secondary market. It consolidates data from across the wine industry into a single, industry leading reference point—trusted by merchants worldwide for accurate wine pricing. You can find more details on how it is calculated, and how you can use it, here.
  • Average List Price
The 30-day mean price for all price lists collected by Liv-ex.

AUXILIARY DATA

  • Last Auction Price
The price the wine was last auctioned at auction houses such as Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Acker. Liv-ex holds auction prices for around 100,000 different wines and vintages. These prices include buyer’s premium.
  • Release Prices*

    Ex-Chateau:
The initial price at which the wine is sold by the chateau to the négociant.
Ex-Negociant: The price at which négociants sell to international trade.
Ex-London: The price at which the international trade (UK in this example) sells to their private clients. This price is in-bond.
