- Le Pin 2023 has been released at £25,000 per 12×75.
- ‘One of the best vintages of Le Pin I have tasted from the barrel’, said Neal Martin, who awarded 97-99 points.
- Today’s release presents good value to those able to secure an allocation.
As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Le Pin 2023 has been released at €2,000 per bottle ex-négociant, the same as the 2022 release price.
It is being offered by the international trade for £25,000 per 12×75, a 12.0% decrease on the 2022’s opening price (£28,400 a case).
While 2013 was a bad year for most of Bordeaux, Le Pin was one of the worst affected. As a result, the Château did not release a wine that year.
Today’s release price makes the 2023 one of the least expensive vintages from the last ten.
Critical response
‘Another strong effort for this small Pomerol winery’ said William Kelley (The Wine Advocate), giving a score of 94-96 points.
Jane Anson awarded the wine a score of 97 points. She adds that while the 2023 is ‘less exuberant than some vintages of Le Pin, the texture is immediately arresting, with rich peony and iris aromatics, fleshy raspberry and damson fruits but also grip, orange peel, cigar box, tobacco leaf’.
‘This is one of the best vintages of Le Pin I have tasted from the barrel, more serious and more floral than some recent ones’, said Neal Martin (Vinous), who awarded a score of 97-99 points.
According to James Lawther MW (Jancis Robinson), the 2023 is ‘a refined and more discreet Le Pin, sweet and smooth but light of touch and linear as well’. He awarded a score of 17/20 points.
Antonio Galloni (Vinous) described this vintage of Le Pin as ‘especially exuberant, dense and possessing notable depth’. He gave the wine a score of 96-99 points,
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) awarded the 2023 Le Pin one of her seven potentially perfect 98–100-point scores this vintage. In her tasting note, she describes ‘floral notions of wisteria and red roses, leading to spicy notes of cinnamon and clove, before opening out to a powerful core of wild blueberries, juicy blackberries, and black raspberries, with an underlying waft of forest floor’.
Pricing analysis
Today’s release is one of the least expensive vintages of the past decade currently available on the market and may tempt those who can secure an allocation.
