As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Beauséjour (Duffau-Lagarrosse) 2023 has been released at €108 per bottle ex-négociant, down 10% on 2022 (€120 per bottle).
It is being offered by the international trade for £1,284 per 12×75, a 10.8% decrease on the 2022’s release price (£1,440 per case).

Critical Response
Jane Anson was effusive in her praise, calling it ‘one of the wines of the vintage’ and awarding it 98 points, the second highest score she awarded this year. Her tasting note includes ‘aromatic spirals of peonies and crushed rose petals, set against raspberry and brambled autumnal fruits’, as well as ‘liquorice root, liquorice bud, aniseed and fennel’.
Neal Martin (Vinous) scored the wine a barrel range of 94-96 points, describing it as ‘a finely tuned and complex wine’.
Antonio Galloni (Vinous) called the wine ‘powerful and resonant’, awarding it 92-95 points. He adds that ‘this is going to be a fascinating wine to follow’.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) awarded a barrel score of 96-98 points. In her tasting note, she describes a bouquet of ‘redcurrants, Bing cherries, and fresh blackberries, giving way to an undercurrent of candied violets, fragrant soil, and crushed rocks’.
William Kelley (The Wine Advocate) gave a barrel score of 96-98 points. According to him, this vintage, Joséphine Duffau Lagarrosse’s third, is ‘the most impressive to date’.
Pricing Analysis
According to the Liv-ex Fair Value methodology, Market Prices of Château Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse are 60.8% correlated with Neal Martin’s scores, Liv-ex members’ most trusted critic of Bordeaux En Primeur wine.
As shown in the chart below, today’s release falls below the Fair Value regression line. As such, buyers may wish to turn to back vintages for value opportunities.
The 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021 vintages all fall below the trend line and represent Fair Value.
Available at a 35.0% discount to today’s release, the 2019 vintage may present reasonable value to buyers. The wine received 94 points from Neal Martin and 97 points from Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW.
The 2015, with 96 points from Martin, comes from a proven Right Bank vintage and benefits from time in bottle. It currently has a Market Price £1,140 per 12×75, an 11.2% to today’s release.
