Critical response

According to Jane Anson, the 2023 Lagrange is ‘showing precision and confidence in its construction, finessed and elegant, with Saint Julien balance and reserved power’. She awarded the wine a score of 95 points.

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded a barrel score of 91-93 points. According to him the 2023 is a ‘solid wine, if perhaps without the flair of the 2022’.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) called the wine ‘bright, punchy and full of character’, giving a barrel score of 92-95 points.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) gave a score range of 92-94 points, describing ‘notes of red cherries, cassis, and blueberry jump from the glass, followed by hints of violets, graphite, and moss-covered tree bark with a touch of cloves’.

William Kelley (The Wine Advocate) described the wine as ‘attractively seamless and complete’, awarding a barrel range of 93-95 points.

Pricing analysis

While today’s release comes at a discount to last year’s, there remain less expensive physical vintages available on the market.

Neal Martin awarded his second-highest score of the decade to the 2019 vintage. At a Market Price of £345, it is available at a discount of 7.3% to today’s release and may be a compelling option for buyers.

The 2020, with 95 points from William Kelley and 94 points from Neal Martin, is currently available at £367 per case and may also be of interest.
