As part of the Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Saint-Pierre 2023 has been released at €32.40 per bottle ex-négociant, down 28.9% on the 2022 release (€45.60 per bottle).
It is being offered by the international trade for £410.40, down 25.4% on the 2022’s opening price (£550 a case).

Critical response
Antonio Galloni (Vinous) gave a score of 93-95 points, noting ‘a ton of character, incisive tannins and bright acids’.
According to Neal Martin (Vinous), the wine is ‘precise and fresh with plenty of black fruit and a lovely graphite note underneath’. He gave a barrel score of 91-93 points.
James Suckling awarded the wine a barrel range of 94-95 points, describing it as ‘very refined and classy’.
William Kelley (The Wine Advocate) gave the wine a score of 92-94 points, calling it a ‘strong effort’ and adding that it will ‘age with grace’.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) described notes of ‘fresh black and red currants, licorice, and charcoal, plus hints of dried roses and fallen leaves’, awarding a score of 93-95 points.
Jane Anson awarded the wine 95 points. She described it as ‘an enjoyable, sleek and confident St Julien, with an effortless finesse where you feel they aren’t trying too hard to impress’.
Château Saint-Pierre 2023 pricing analysis
While coming in at a discount to last year, today’s release is one of the more expensive vintages on the market. For buyers interested in value opportunities, there are options in back vintages.
The 95-point 2015, 2016 and 2018 vintages are all available at a slight discount to today’s release. With approximately equal Market Prices (£400-£401), buyers may opt for either the 2015 or 2016, both of which benefit from extra time in bottle. Fans of Jane Anson may favor the 2016, which received her highest score of the decade – 97 points.
Available at a 15.9% discount to today’s release, the 2019, from a proven vintage and receiving 94 points from Neal Martin, may also be of interest.
