What’s happening in the market?
Bordeaux and Burgundy took the lead in regional trade by value over the weekend. Bordeaux currently holds 31.2% of the market share by value with wines from Le Pin, Pétrus and Château Lafite Rothschild driving this momentum.
Close on Bordeaux’s heels, Burgundy currently claims 30.8% of the regional trade. Contributors to Burgundy’s regional trade share by value include Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Joseph Drouhin and Domaine Georges Roumier.
In third position is the USA, holding 12.3% of trade, surpassing both Champagne (8.4%) and Tuscany (5.6%). Screaming Eagle 2019 and 2018, along with wines from Dominus and Opus One, have seen activity over the weekend.

Critical reviews
Eric Guido (Vinous) awarded the 2019 vintage 96 points, describing it as a ‘classically structured’ wine with ‘tremendous length’. He further noted ‘Il Poggione has captured the radiance of the vintage, yet this is just a baby today’.
Monica Larner (The Wine Advocate) awarded the wine 94 points, noting that the wine ‘shows an evolved bouquet with aromas of dried fruit, forest floor, crushed flower and autumnal leaf’. She additionally highlighted that this was a ‘200,000-bottle release’.
Fair Value analysis
The 2019 release appears to offer relative value compared to preceding vintages having higher scores and a lower entry price than others in the market. For buyers looking for options with a bit more age, the 2018 and 2015 vintages also look attractive.
The 2018 vintage, which has the same score as the 2019, is currently available for £300 per case (a 6.3% discount to the latest release).
With 97 points from Vinous, the 2015 is also an attractive option for buyers. The wine is currently priced at £289 per case, presenting a 9.7% discount on the 2019.
