  • La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion 2022 has been released at £792 per 12×75.
  • ‘Should give 12 to 15 years of drinking pleasure’ said Neal Martin, who rated it 90-92 points.
  • Buyers looking for value might want to consider the 2018 and 2019 vintages.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion 2022 has been released at €66 per bottle ex-négociant, up 20% on the 2021 release (€55 per bottle).

It is being offered by the international trade for £792 per 12×75, a 17.9% increase on the 2021’s opening price (£672 a case). The volume released was down 50% year-on-year, which may go some way in explaining the price increase.

At this price, the 2018 and 2019 vintages look better value in relation to today’s release. See more pricing analysis below.

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded it a barrel range of 90-92 points, estimating that it ‘should give 12 to -15 years of drinking pleasure.’

‘Fascinating to see the evolution of this estate’, said Jane Anson (Inside Bordeaux), who rated it 92 points.

James Suckling assigned it a score of 94-95 points, emphasising a palate with ‘no heat or over-maturity’.

Fair Value analysis

La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion Market Prices are 70.5% correlated to Neal Martin scores, the chosen critic for Liv-ex’s ‘Fair Value’ methodology. At £792 per 12×75, today’s release is coming above the fair value line.

Based on the chart below, buyers looking for value in back vintages might want to consider the 91-point 2019 and 92-point 2018, which are available at discounts of 38.1% and 22.4% respectively to today’s release.

The lower-scoring 2012 and 2014 may also be of interest, as they both fall below the trend line.
