As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Cantenac Brown 2022 has been released at €40.20 per bottle ex-négociant, up 17.5% on 2021’s opening price (€34.20 per bottle).
It is being offered by the international trade for £486 per 12×75, an 18.5% increase on the 2021’s opening price (£410 per case).

Critics’ scores
Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded the wine a barrel range of 94-96 points, highlighting its ‘elegant nose’ of black cherry, wild strawberry, blackcurrant pastilles and cedar. He calls the wine ‘cohesive and full of character’, lauding it as ‘another superb Margaux’ from winemaker José Sanfins.
James Suckling scored the wine a barrel range of 93-94 points, calling this ‘solid Margaux’ ‘already delicious’.
William Kelley (Wine Advocate) noted that ‘A few years ago, this estate purchased 22 additional hectares in the heart of the plateau of Margaux, including old vine Cabernet Sauvignon’, which he said ‘helps to explain why the 2022 Cantenac Brown is so good’.
He concluded that it is ‘the finest wine that José Sanfins has produced to date’ and awarded it a barrel range of 94-96 points.
Fair Value analysis
There is no significant correlation between Cantenac Brown Market Prices and Neal Martin scores, the chosen critic for Liv-ex ‘Fair Value’ methodology.
Buyers looking for value might consider the 93-point 2017 vintage, which is available at a 26.1% discount to today’s release. The 2020, with a Market Price of £381 per 12×75 and 94 points from Neal Martin, is available at a 21.6% discount to the 2022.
The 2019 has a slightly lower Neal Martin score of 92+ points but also looks attractive; it is available at a discount of 22.8% to today’s release.
