Wine critic Jancis Robinson published the latest installment of her Bordeaux 2022 scores on her website earlier this week. This year’s tastings were conducted by Jancis Robinson and James Lawther MW. In previous years, they were joined by Alistair Cooper MW and Julia Harding MW.
The latest article, published on Monday 8th of May, was dedicated to Left Bank reds, while the two previous installments focused on Right Bank reds and Bordeaux whites respectively.
The critics’ top-scoring wines from the vintage can be found below.
Of all the wines tasted, only one was awarded the top mark of 19 points out of 20: Château Mouton Rothschild. James Lawther MW praised its ‘truly amazing’ palate, describing it as ‘suave, sensual but packed with polished tannin’. He even ventured to wonder whether the wine could be ‘a modern 1986’.
The top-scoring wines are very evenly spread-out amongst appellations, with only Pauillac appearing twice. Indeed, Château Lafite received the second-best score of 18.5 points.
Of the recently-released Château Cheval Blanc, James Lawther MW said it has ‘sumptuous texture’, and just as James Suckling had in his scores, declared it ‘one of the wines of the vintage’. The wine was released at €470 per bottle ex-négociant and is being offered by international trade at £5,760 per 12×75.
