- Château Coutet has been released at £348 per 12×75.
- James Suckling scored the wine 93-94 points, Jeff Leve 94-96 points, and Jean-Marc Quarin 93 points.
- While the 2022 seems to offer relative value, the 2013, 2015 and 2017 vintages are also options to consider.
As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Coutet 2022 has been released at €28.20 per bottle ex-négociant, down 9.6% on the 2021 release (€31.20).
It is being offered by the international trade for £348 per 12×75, a 7.5% decrease on the 2021’s opening price (£376 per case).
The new release is considerably cheaper than last year’s vintage, and is only marginally more expensive than the 2019 and 2020. See more pricing analysis below.
Critics’ scores
Neal Martin (Vinous) scored the wine a barrel range of 94-96 points, making the 2022 potentially the highest-scoring vintage of the last decade. Jeff Leve also awarded the 2022 release a barrel range of 94-96 points, while Jean-Marc Quarin rated is 93 points.
James Suckling gave it a barrel range of 93-94 points. In his tasting note he said it was ‘full and creamy with attractive acidity and a textural finish’.
Fair Value analysis
The new release is potentially the highest-scoring Coutet of the last decade according to Neal Martin, so at £348 per case, it offers relative value.
However, buyers looking for value may want to consider the 2015 and 2017 vintages. Both were awarded 95 points by Neal Martin and are available for less than today’s release.
With several years bottle age and 94-points from Neal Martin, the 2013 also looks attractive and is currently available at a 16.7% discount compared to the 2022 release.
Other releases
Château Coutet’s second label, Opalie de Château Coutet, has also been released at €24 per bottle ex-négociant.
