The latest wines from the Spanish ‘First Growth’ Vega Sicilia, including the 2018 Valbuena and the 2013 vintage of Único have been released. Critical opinion
Tim Atkin MW awarded the 2013 Único a score of 97-points. He said that the wine was ‘a delight to drink now and will continue to evolve for at least another decade’.
Jancis Robinson gave it 18++/20, noting that it is ‘very sharp and intense and hard work in terms of acid and tannin but very promising’. She added that the wine was the ‘essence of Vega Sicilia’.
Fair Value
At this price, the new release costs more than the 96-point 2011 and 2005 vintages, which come at 11.3% and 8.1% discounts respectively.
Buyers might also wish to consider the 98-point 2009 vintage, which has a Market Price of £3,200 per case.
In the last year, the 2012 vintage has been the most traded by value.
Other releases
The 2018 Valbuena 5˚ was offered today at £1,272 per 12×75. The extremely limited NV Vega Sicilia Único Reserva Especial was also released at £1,041 per 3 bottle case.
