Cheval des Andes 2019 has been released through La Place de Bordeaux at the start of a busy week for the autumn campaign. It is being offered internationally for £816 per case of 12 bottles. The 2018 vintage looks good value among back vintages. See more Fair Value analysis below.

Critical analysis

The wine was rated 98-points by The Wine Advocate. Critic Luis Gutierrez said it was ‘tasty and supple’ but, due to changes in its winemaking recently, ‘might be less accessible when young’.

However, the aim of these changes was to produce a more age-worthy wine, and it has ‘the ingredients and the balance for what they are aiming for’.

The wine also received scores of 96+ from Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW at The Wine Independent, 97-points from Joaquin Hidalgo at Vinous, and 96-points from Jane Anson.

Fair Value

The 98-point 2018 vintage looks good value both in relation to today’s release and the 97-point 2016 and 2017 wines. It is currently available for £700 per 12×75.

Buyers looking for value might also consider those the 2016 and 2017 wines, which have 97+ scores from The Wine Advocate and are both under £800 per case.
