  • Masseto 2019 has been released for 425 per bottle ex-négociant.
  • The wine has a score of 98-points from the Wine Advocate and Vinous.
  • The new vintage looks good value when compared to older vintages.

The 2019 vintage of Masseto has been released through La Place de Bordeaux as part of the autumn campaign. The 2020 vintage of second wine Massetino is also out.

The wine is being offered at €425 per bottle, ex-négociant and is expected to be released internationally for £6,250 per case of 12 bottles. At that price the new release would represent fair value. See more pricing analysis below.

Critical response

Antonio Galloni rated the 2019 for Vinous. He gave it a score of 98+, calling it ‘fabulous’, as well as, ‘silky, gracious and super-refined’. He also noted that this is the first year to use a small, 10% proportion of Cabernet Franc.

Monica Larner for the Wine Advocate also gave it a score of 98-points. She said the vintage, ‘opens a chapter for one of Italy’s most celebrated and collected wines’.

Jane Anson, meanwhile, rated the new vintage 99-points in her report. ‘A sculpted but intense Masseto…stunningly rich in texture,’ she said.

Fair value analysis

The 2019’s ex-négociant price is 7.6% more than the 2018’s was. Nonetheless, the new vintage is the best value Masseto on the market today.

With scores of 98 and 99-points from major critics it has better ratings than the 2018 and 2017 as well. The 2014 is slightly cheaper but has a score of 94-points.

The 2019 has already seen trade on the secondary market for £6,788 per 12×75.
