Le Pin 2021 has been released at £24,800 per 12×75, up 3.3% on the 2020’s opening price.

Critics’ scores
Neal Martin (Vinous) scored this year’s Le Pin 94-96 points. In his tasting note, he said the wine was ‘wonderful’ and added that ‘the terroir really shines through in 2021 perhaps more than in other feted vintages’.
Antonio Galloni (Vinous) also scored the wine 94-96 points. He noted that ‘production is down quite a bit, about 14 barrels instead of the more typical 20 or so’.
James Suckling said that the wine ‘shows real structure for the vintage’ and scored it 98-99 points. While William Kelley (Wine Advocate) scored it 94-97, noting how ‘well-drained sites such as Le Pin came into their own in the 2021 growing season’.
Jane Anson scored the wine 94 points. In her tasting note she said it was ‘an arresting wine, with nuance, hidden power, and beauty’. However, she noted that ‘it may not still the conversation in a room the way that the best vintages of this remarkable wine can do’.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) said that ‘the palate delivers impactful energy with wonderful tension to the tightly knit black fruit layers’. She scored it 92-94 points.
Fair Value analysis
Today’s opening price looks fair according to the Liv-ex Fair Value methodology. Le Pin’s best correlation is with scores from the Wine Advocate.
The 2021 looks good value at its current price and rating, it will look even better if Kelley rates it at the upper end of his in-barrel score of 96 or 97-points.
Buyers looking for other options might be interested in the 2012 vintage, which has 10 years in bottle, a score of 95-points from Wine Advocate and is currently available for just a small premium on the release price of the 2021.
