As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Vieux Château Certan 2021 has been released at €228 per bottle ex-négociant, down 5% on the 2020’s opening price.
It is being offered by the international trade for £2,736 per 12×75. The 2014 vintage looks better value compared to today’s release. See more pricing analysis below.
Critics’ scores
Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded today’s release a barrel range of 94-96 points and called it ‘pure class’. He added that the palate was ‘built around finesse, precision and charm’.
Antonio Galloni (Vinous) gave it 96-98 points and described it as ‘truly magical’.
William Kelley (The Wine Advocate) rated it 94-96 points. He noted: ‘As is almost invariably the case, Vieux Château Certan is one of the finest wines of the appellation this year’.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) also gave it 94-96 and said it is a ‘wine that shimmers from start to finish’.
The wine received 93-95 from Jeb Dunnuck and 96-97 from James Suckling.
Fair Value analysis
Today’s opening price comes at around a 19% premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s Fair Value methodology.
