As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Le Clarence de Haut-Brion 2021 has been released at €110 per bottle ex-négociant, down 8.3% on the 2020’s opening price.
It is being offered by the international trade for £1,308 per 12×75. The 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 vintages look better value in relation to today’s release. See more pricing analysis below.
Critics’ scores
Neal Martin (Vinous) gave it a score of 90-92 thought that it maybe ‘lacks a bit of persistence’ but was a ‘fine’ second wine.
Martin’s fellow critic at Vinous, Antonio Galloni called it, ‘super-expressive’, and likewise scored it 90-92. William Kelley (Wine Advocate) was in agreement, rating it 91-93 and calling it ‘one of the finest second wines in this vintage’.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent), scored it 87-89 points.
Fair Value analysis
Le Clarence Haut-Brion has a stronger correlation with age rather than critic score according to Liv-ex’s Fair Value methodology.
Buyers might consider the vintages between 2016 and 2019, which are all available for a discount to today’s release and have several years in bottle already.
