As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2021 has been released at €110.40 per bottle ex-négociant, unchanged on the 2020’s opening price.

It is being offered by the international trade for £1,320 per 12×75. The 2012, 2015 and 2020 vintages look better value compared to today’s release. See more pricing analysis below.

Critics’ scores

The 2021 Pichon-Longueville Baron received 93-95 points from Neal Martin (Vinous), who said that there was ‘delicacy about the aromatics that distinguishes it from recent vintages’.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) awarded it a slightly higher range of 95-97, remarking that the 2021 ‘stands out for its persistence’.

William Kelley (The Wine Advocate) gave it 94-96+ and called it ‘one of the real successes of the vintage’.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) rated it 90-92 points, while Jane Anson – 94.

Fair Value analysis

Buyers looking for value might be interested in the 2015, which is among the highest-scoring vintages with 97-points from Martin, and costs 8.4% less than today’s release.

Meanwhile, the 2012 has the same score, offers bottle age and is available at a 20.5% discount.

Buyers might also wish to consider the 2020, which has 96-points from Martin and the same price as the 2021.

Les Griffons de Pichon Baron 2021 has also been released €28.80 per bottle ex-négociant. It is being offered at £346 per 12×75.
