As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Malescot St. Exupéry 2021 has been released at €37.2 per bottle ex-négociant, down 3.1% on the 2020’s opening price.

It is being offered by the international trade for £444 per 12×75. The 2017 and 2020 vintages look better value compared to today’s release. See more pricing analysis below.

Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded today’s release a barrel range of 90-92 points. He said that he was ‘expecting a bit more from this excellent Margaux estate, but maybe it will meliorate in barrel? Not beyond possibility.’

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) gave it 93-95 points and declared the ‘2021 Malescot St. Exupéry […] another terrific wine from a property that has been trending towards finesse’.

William Kelley (The Wine Advocate) scored it 92-94, and called the wine ‘a terrific effort’. He added that ‘the dramatic style of the château has worked very well with the cooler, later-maturing vintage’.

The wine also boasts 94-95 points from James Suckling, 85-87 points from Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) and 90-points from Jane Anson.

Fair Value analysis

Buyers looking for value might consider last year’s release, which has 95 points from Neal Martin and is currently available for a 5.4% discount.

The 2017 also presents an attractive alternative. With 93+ points from Martin, it is available for 21.8% less than today’s release price.
