The 2008 Champagnes are currently the most traded vintage on the secondary market and have seen steady price gains over the past year.
The 2008 vintage is the most traded vintage Champagne so far this year, accounting for 18% of total Champagne trade by value. Louis Roederer’s Cristal 2008 has been the most-traded Champagne by value (measured as LWIN11) in 2022.
As outlined in our 2022 Q1 report, the secondary market for Champagne has continued to see strong trade and rising prices this year following its outstanding performance in 2021.
The Champagne 50 sub-index has risen 50.6% in the past year, outperforming all other fine wine and commodities indices.
As can be seen from the table below, the 2008 vintage has been a key contributor to this positive momentum, with a number of the top-scoring wines seeing large price gains over the last year.
Jacques Selosse’s Millésime 2008 has been the best-performing wine from the vintage. Its price has increased over four times in the past year.
As well as being the top-traded Champagne this year, Cristal 2008 has also been one of the best-performing wines from the vintage, rising 155% in value since April 2021.
