The 2020 Petit Village has been released for €90 per bottle ex-négociant, up 97% on the 2019 release.
The international trade is offering the wine for £1,080 per 12×75, 46% more than the current Market Price of the 2019.
This is the first vintage made under the estate’s new owners, the Moulin family which owns Groupe Galeries Lafayette.
Critical opinion
Neal Martin awarded the wine 91-93 points. He noted, “the 2020 Petit Village has undergone a makeover with a spanking new label and wax seal”.
He continued: “This shows an improvement over underperforming recent vintages, but give it another 3–4 years to see what this Pomerol is really capable of.”
Antonio Galloni said, “the 2020 is compelling right out of the gate” and awarded 92-94 points. “Could this be a turning point for the estate?” he asked.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW called the wine “impressive!” and gave 93-95+ points.
Fair Value
Prices for vintages 2015—2019 all fall between £500 to £600 per 12×75 yet 2015 stands out as one of the highest scored.
Today’s release makes the 2020 the most expensive Petit Village ever released and most expensive vintage currently on the market.
The 2016 with a slightly higher Benchmark Critic score of 93-points is available for £584 per dozen.
With its new owners, winemaking and packaging overhaul this year’s release is clearly meant to mark a “new era” for the estate.
