The 2020 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion, the second wine of Château La Mission Haut-Brion, has been released for €60 per bottle ex-négociant, up 42.9% on the 2019 release.
The international trade is offering the wine for £720 per 12×75, 41.2% more than the current Market Price of the 2019 and equivalent to the opening price of the 2018 vintage.
Critical opinion
Benchmark Critic Neal Martin gave the lowest score for this wine, 88-90. He noted it has “more backbone” than Le Clarence de Haut-Brion.
“It just needs to develop a bit more flesh and sensuality by the time it is bottled,” he said.
Fellow Vinous critic Antonio Galloni meanwhile rated it 91-93.
Jane Anson at Decanter gave it 94-points and called it: “A silky and seductive La Chapelle that rivals plenty of first wines in this vintage.”
Fair Value
Based on the Benchmark Critic’s scores, today’s release falls above the Fair Value line. Followers of Antonio Galloni and Jane Anson may find the 2020 vintage offers value.
The 2018 vintage, which released at an equivalent price to the 2020 vintage, has since drifted in price and looks good value at the moment. It is also the second highest scored vintage.
At 90-points, the 2012 and 2019 vintages fall below the fair value line. The 91-point 2016 and 2014 look fair value.
