The 2020 Château Pape Clément Blanc has been released for €88.8 per bottle ex-négociant, equal to the 2019 release.
The international trade is offering the wine for £1,066 per 12×75, 4.7% less than the current Market Price of the 2019.
This marks one of the biggest price decreases on last year during this En Primeur campaign.
Critical opinion
Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded a barrel range of 92-94 points. He said that “the 2020 Pape Clément Blanc is a clear step up from the Le Prelat and Clementin”.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Advocate) gave 94-96 points. She noted that “the medium to full-bodied palate delivers fantastically intense citrus and pear flavours with a racy backbone and silky texture, finishing long and fragrant”.
The wine received 97-98 points from James Suckling, who said it was “impressive for the vintage”.
It also received 17.5 points from Matthew Jukes and 17 from JancisRobinson.com.
Fair Value
Prices for Pape Clément Blanc are strongly correlated to Benchmark Critic scores.
As the chart below shows, 93-points from Neal Martin positions today’s release above the Fair Value line.
The 2012 and 2007 present attractive in-bottle alternatives. Both have higher scores than the 2020 and cost less.
The 2009 vintage stands above the rest but the market appears to have the wine accurately priced for its score (RP 100).
