  • Pavie has been released at £2,890 (12×75) SEP.
  • The new wine is down 3% on the 2019 release but is 6.7% more expensive than the 2019’s current Market Price.
  • Pavie 2020 has been rated 99-100 by James Suckling and 97 by Jane Anson.

Château Pavie has been released at €240 per bottle ex-négociant, the same price as its 2019 release. It is being offered for £2,890 per dozen, 3.3% less than the 2019 was on release (£2,990) but up 6.7% on the 2019’s current Market Price of £2,707.

High praise

James Suckling awarded the wine 99-100 points, saying: “The intensity and verve of this wine promises true greatness.”

Jane Anson at Decanter meanwhile scored it 97, noting: “The Cabernets dominate the blend on the aromatics, and you can really see they are moving the needle on the architecture and sculpting of this wine.”

She added that: “This shows the limestone terroir in a way that, with the best will in the world, the more concentrated style of Pavie just didn’t do.”

Fair value

The enthusiastic reception to the 2020 vintage so far and the evolving style of Pavie, will no doubt mean there will be interest in this release.

The 2019 carries the best benchmark critic score since the 2005 and although it has drifted in price since last summer, should the 2020 be marked at the same level it will likely look well-judged as a release.

Second wine, Aromes de Pavie, was also released alongside the grand vin at €60 per bottle ex-négociant.

The other wines from the same stable, including Pavie Decesse and Monbousquet, were released this morning.
