When new critic scores are published, they help uncover the potential value of previous vintages.
On Wednesday, Antonio Galloni of Vinous published his notes and scores on the new releases from Tuscany. He wrote that the Tuscan Coast is home to “compelling wines that run the gamut from daily drinkers to highly coveted, age worthy reds that stand with the very best wines from around the world.”
Galloni’s highest scored was Masseto 2017 – 97+ points. He called it “fabulous” and said it “dazzles from start to finish”. The wine released at £5,400 per 12×75 and is trading a touch above that level. Both the 2012 and 2013 carry similar scores and are available at a slight discount to the recently scored 2017. There are active markets around all the vintages charted below.
Second highest was Ornellaia 2018 – 97 points. The trade is currently awaiting the release, which has historically come in the Spring of each year. However, there are a number of wines currently presenting value on the market.
The 2015 vintage is Galloni’s highest scored for the wine and one which he described as a “dream”. There are currently 14 six packs offered at market price (£749).
The 2011 vintage carries the lowest market price of the below wines yet trails the top ranked wine by a mere point. There is a LIVE bid for 6x75s on the wine but is it awaiting an offer.
Third down the list was Fattoria Le Pupille Saffredi Toscana IGT 2018 – 96+ points. Galloni proclaimed it “may very well be the most refined Saffredi I have ever tasted”. There are currently 24 6x75s, twelve magnums, and four double magnums, all offered LIVE.
