Chateau Palmer 2010 has been released for the final time, from the cellars of the estate, at €275 per bottle ex-negociant, up 28% on the original release (€215). The wine is being offered by the international trade at £3,516 per 12×75, up 46.5% on the first release price (£2,400) and 35.2% above market (£2,600).
For several years Palmer has only released 50% of their Grand Vin En Primeur with the following 50% released the third Thursday of September, 10 years on.
Neal Martin of Vinous first gave the wine a barrel range of 92-94 in 2011 but has upgraded his in bottle score a number of times. In his most recent rescoring this April, he awarded a 96, and described the wine as “your quintessential Margaux turned up to eleven”, adding its “an outstanding Palmer but it needs more time in the bottle”.
The Wine Advocate’s Lisa Perrotti-Brown awarded a 96+, finding “the 2010 Palmer rolls out of the glass with warm cassis, baked plums and boysenberries scents plus hints of candied violets, star anise, and dried bay leaves”.
James Suckling gave the wine 98 points, writing it was “very fine indeed. Fit, fruity and reserved. Superb”.
Today’s release comes to the market at a significant premium to the surrounding vintages. The identically scored 2011 and 2012 look to offer relative value. Those considering a top scoring vintage may look towards 2009, 2015, 2016, and 2018.
