September’s La Place releases continued this week with two high-profile wines coming from California (Verite 2017 & Joseph Phelps Insignia 2017) along with one from Italy – the limited production flagship wine from Petrolo. The USA and Italy are two regions that have seen the largest jump in trade share this year – up from 2.3% to 6.6% for the USA and 8.8% to 15.3% for Italy.

Attached are all physical vintages of these recent releases. We’ve also included LIVE offers of Opus OneSolaia, and Masseto, all of which were released last week. The charts below and linked release blogs will guide you to where value can be found in the current and back vintages.

Verite 2017

For a third consecutive year, the 2017 vintage of La Muse, La Joie and Le Desir were offered as a 3-pack collection case. Verite’s flagship wines released at £3,840 per 12×75 in the UK, up 2% on the 2016’s release price of £3,760 per 12×75.

La Muse was awarded 99 points by the Wine Advocate’s Lisa Perrotti-Brown. La Desir received 98. La Joie, 98+.

Joseph Phelps Insignia 2017

Joseph Phelps Insignia 2017 was released at €144 per bottle ex-négociant, down 2.7% on last year’s release (€148). The wine is being offered by the international trade at £1,920 per 12×75, equivalent to the 2016 opening price.

Joseph Phelps’ winemaker, Ashley Hepsworth, said this would be the rarest offering of Insignia in 20 years and Lisa Perrotti-Brown added that only 7,500 cases were made – approximately half of normal production. Perrotti-Brown awarded the wine a barrel range of (93-95)+.

Petrolo Galatrona 2018

Petrolo Galatrona 2018 was released at €52 per bottle ex-négociant, equivalent to the 2017 release. The wine is being offered by the international traded at £840 per 12×75.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown awarded the wine 95-97 points, whole James Suckling gave it 98.
