Seña 2018 has been released at €80 per bottle ex-négociant, equivalent to the 2017 release (€80). The wine is being offered by the international trade at £990 per 12×75, a marginal decrease on the 2017 opening price of £996 per case.
Luis Gutiérrez awarded the wine 98 points, the highest ever scored vintage. Indeed, it also his highest scoring Chilean wine from the 2018 vintage – trumping 315 wines. Gutierrez stated “this has to be the finest vintage of Seña to date”, adding it “should develop nicely in bottle; its approachable now, but if you can hold it a little but more, it should be even better”. He noted an Abv of 14% and a production level of 100,000 bottles.
James Suckling gave 100 points, matching the perfectly scored 2015. He described the wine as “a very thoughtful Seña that shows unique aromas of warm earth, mushrooms and conifer, turning to dark berries and black olive”.
Today’s release comes to the market above a number of recent vintages yet has received the highest scores. Followers of James Suckling and those looking for a bit of bottle age may wish to consider the 2015 vintage, currently available at a discount to the 2018.
