- First Growths on the rise
- Lafite Rothschild 2016 leads weekly trade by value
- Latest Bordeaux 2018 releases
Trade improved by both value and volume this week. The increased activity in Bordeaux (despite, or because of, the 2018 campaign currently underway) led to a small rise in the Liv-ex 50 (+0.4%).
Champagne and Italy made gains to account for 12.7% and 7.5% of the total trade by value respectively. Within Champagne, Salon 2002 and 2006 and Cristal 2008 and 2006 were in the spotlight. Meanwhile, the Super Tuscans continued to dominate Italian trade. Burgundy’s share almost halved, while the Rhone and the “others” category dipped slightly.
The most active wines this week were mixed, coming from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Italy and Champagne. Lafite Rothschild 2016 (JS 100, JD 100) was in the top spot with a last trade price of £5,926 per case. Lafite also released their 2018 vintage yesterday, which has been offered by merchants at £6,000 per 12×75.
Another First Growth with a 100 points from Suckling featured in the top five: Latour 2005 last traded at £6,400 per 12×75, up 44.4% on its release price (£4,500).
Salon 2002 was also very active – you can find out more about the price performance of the Champagne house here.
