Beausejour Duffau 2018 has been released at €90 per bottle ex-negociant, a 19% increase on the 2017 release price of €75.60. It is being offered by UK merchants at £1,100 per 12×75, up 18.3% in sterling terms on the 2017 release of £930 per case.
Today’s release was among James Suckling’s favourites with a score of 99-100 points. Suckling said it “flexes its muscle with every sip, yet there’s agility and precision to it at the same time”.
Meanwhile, Lisa Perrotti-Brown (The Wine Advocate) gave it 95-97+ points and noted that “it has a rock-solid structure of firm, rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with mineral sparks”. Antonio Galloni (Vinous) awarded it 94-97 points and called it “a fascinating wine”, “an especially refined Beausejour”.
However, both Jeff Leve (Wine Doctor) and Jane Anson (Decanter) saw its potential to be a 100-point wine. In his tasting note, Leve said that he does “not know where to start or to stop praising this wine”.
Prices for Beausejour Duffau are strongly correlated to critics’ scores. Followers of Galloni, Perotti-Brown and Suckling can all find value in today’s release. Moreover, Suckling’s score takes it to a comparable level with the 2009 and 2010, as the chart above shows.
Alternatively, buyers might wish to consider the 2011 and 2012 which are currently available at small discounts.
