Pavie Decesse 2018 was released this morning at €90 per bottle ex-negociant, up 4.2% on the 2017’s opening price of €86.4. It is being offered by the international trade at £1,086 per 12×75, down 0.5% on the 2017 release of £1,092 per case.
Critical reception of today’s release has been largely positive. James Suckling awarded the wine 97-98 points and described it as “very strong and concentrated with great length and minerality at the end. Finesse with power.”
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Advocate) gave it a similar barrel range of 96-98 and commented that the wine “has a firm structure of super ripe, finely grained tannins and amazing freshness”.
Antonio Galloni (Vinous) scored it slightly lower (92-95) but said that “in 2018, Pavie-Decesse impresses with its vertical intensity and pure power”.
Meanwhile, today’s release was one of Jeb Dunnuck’s favourites with a 97-100-point score. Jane Anson (Decanter) also noted that the “delicious” wine was “always one of [her] favourites in the Perse stable” and gave it 94 points.
Prices for Pavie Decesse are 68% correlated to our ‘Benchmark critic’ series. For followers of Galloni, the wine is coming to market just above the line implied by our ‘Fair Value’ methodology.
Followers of Suckling and Perrotti-Brown, however, can find good value in today’s release.
Other vintages that look attractive include the 2012, 2013 and 2015, which are also available at small discounts.
