As the trade focussed on early Bordeaux 2018 releases, the region’s share by value dipped from 64.8% to 52.6% this week. The Liv-ex 50, which tracks the price movements of the First Growths, also fell by 0.2%.
Burgundy and Italy gained trade share and were up to 26.5% and 11.7% respectively. Trade for these regions was largely driven by the Burgundian DRC and Armand Rousseau, and the Italian Tignanello and Bruno Giacosa.
USA and the ‘others’ category also improved, while Champagne and the Rhone fell slightly on last week.
Two vintages of DRC Tache were among the most active wines this week. The 2006 was in the top spot, with a last trade at £43,044 per 12×75.
Mouton Rothschild 2000 was in second place, featuring a gold-engraved bottle. It was followed by another 2000 wine – Cheval Blanc, which Robert Parker awarded 99 points and described as “spectacular”.
Bordeaux 2018 critic scores
Earlier this week, Decanter magazine published Jane Anson’s Bordeaux 2018 En Primeur report, as well as her top-scoring wines from the vintage. Anson identified seven potentially perfect wines, each given a range of 98-100 points. You can read her thoughts on the vintage here.
Matthew Jukes also released his Bordeaux 2018 scores this week. Only Cos d’Estournel and Ducru Beaucaillou achieved the perfect 20/20 score, with a number of other wines falling in his 19-19.5 range. Find out more here.

The new way to find price information
The way that the wine business works – how prices are discovered, and how information is exchanged – has changed significantly over the past two decades. More recently, this has become easier still with Liv-ex’s online tool Wine Matcher. Wine Matcher takes Excel lists of wine, tidies them up, and adds price data such as current Market Price, last trade, bid and offer. It can also be used to offer wine in bulk on Liv-ex.
Stay tuned for our webinar next week – it will give an overview of how you can use Wine Matcher. Find out more here.
