The Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 Index – the industry benchmark – closed October on 313.94, down 0.7% on the previous month.
The top movers in October came from Burgundy, the Rhone and Bordeaux. Armand Rousseau Chambertin 2015 occupied the top spot, jumping by 9.9%. It was followed by two recent vintages from the Southern Rhone: Clos Papes 2015 and Beaucastel 2015, which rose by 4.9% and 3.9% respectively. In a recent report, Jeb Dunnuck called Beaucastel 2015 “one of the successes of the vintage”.
DRC Tache 2014 was also up by 3.6%. Cos d’Estournel 2005, which Robert Parker awarded 97 points, rose by 3%.
The biggest fallers in October were from Burgundy. Domaine Leflaive, Chevalier Montrachet 2015 was down the most (-6.7%), and Domaine Ponsot, Clos Roche Vv 2015, which was last month’s biggest faller, continued its downward trend (-6.6%). Napa Valley’s 2014 Dominus and Opus One followed behind. Krug 2004 also decreased in price by 5.6%.
