Last week, the 2001 and 2010 vintages from Leoville Barton traded at all-time highs. The 2005 and 2009 vintages also hit highs at the end of August and the beginning of September, respectively.
Of the four vintages, the 2010 traded at the highest price of £1,052 per 12×75. Back in 2013, Robert Parker (The Wine Advocate) described the wine as “one of the all-time great classics from Leoville Barton” and awarded it 96+ points.
A brand on the move?
The Leoville Barton index has narrowly outperformed the Bordeaux 500 over the past two years, as the chart below shows. Both indices are up 19% and 16% respectively.
Last year, Leoville Barton was re-classified as a Second Growth in the Liv-ex 2017 Bordeaux Classification, having dropped a tier in 2015. The wine also ranked 35th in the 2017 Power 100, up from 39th in 2016.
