Seña 2016 released

The 2016 vintage of the Chilean wine Seña was released today at €84 per bottle ex-negociant, up 7.7% on the 2015 release price (€78). It is being offered by the international trade at £1,070 per 12×75, an increase of 9% on the 2015 (£980) in sterling terms.

At this price, it is more expensive that all other vintages currently in the market, which fall in the £750-£900 range, apart from the 2007.

The Wine Advocate, which has reviewed previous vintages, has not yet scored today’s release. James Suckling rated it 98 points earlier this year and commented on its ‘velvety tannins’, ‘gorgeous texture’ and ‘pure fruit’. He added that it needs more bottle age – of ‘three or four years’.

Followers of Suckling may also look back to last year’s release, the 2015, which he scored a perfect 100 points. It comes at a 14.6% discount to the 2016’s price, making it an interesting alternative for buyers.
