Lafon Rochet 2017 released

Lafon Rochet 2017 has been released at €30 per bottle ex-negociant, a 10.7% decrease on the 2016’s release price of €33.6. It is estimated that UK merchants will offer the wine at £383 per 12×75, down 6.1% in sterling terms on the 2016 ex-London opening of £408 per case.

Critical reception for this year’s offering has been relatively positive. Neal Martin awarded the wine 91-93, praising it as “the first vintage where the new winery has really played a serious role in meliorating quality.” His colleague Antonio Galloni scored the wine slightly lower at 89-91, noting that “the 2017 is a very pretty wine, although it is a touch light in this vintage.”

Information from Bordeaux suggests that the Chateau has decided to hold back around 35% of this year’s production. Given that the similarly scored 2014 and 2015 vintages are in the market for less, today’s release price looks ambitious. Fans of Lafon Rochet will have to decide if they are willing to pay more to support Lafon’s efforts in the winery.
