In the last week both Louis Roederer and Taittinger have released new vintages of their prestige cuvées.
Louis Roederer, Cristal 2008
Louis Roederer, Cristal 2008 was released to the international trade yesterday. It is being offered by UK merchants for £1,430 per 12×75. This is the sixth consecutive vintage to be offered to the market (albeit the 2009 was released prior to the 2008).
Jancis Robinson, who awarded a score of 19.5/20, has praised it as “incredibly complete but obviously still youthful”.
Demand is expected to be strong for this wine and the current bid on Liv-ex reflects a 12.9% premium to release.
Taittinger, Comtes de Champagne 2007
Taittinger, Comtes de Champagne 2007 was released last week and is being offered the UK trade at £900 per 12×75. This is the fourth consecutive vintage to be brought to market and will be the last until 2012 as 2009, 2010 and 2011 are not being declared.
Christelle Guibert, who undertook a recent vertical of Taittinger Comtes de Champagne for Decanter, scored the 2007 at 93 points noting that the wine has “plenty of energy with a fine mousse.”
In terms of price performance, the Champagne 50 has underperformed the wider market in the last twelve months, gaining 4.9% compared to the Liv-ex 1000’s 8.5% rise.
