Montrose 2015 was released today at €102 per bottle ex-negociant, 14.9% higher than the 2014 (€88.8). It is being offered by the international trade at £1,140 per 12×75. This is 34.1% above the 2014 release which was first offered at £850. The 2014 was released ex-negociant 54.2% higher than the 2013 (€57.6).
Neal Martin said “class comes through strongly in this wine, perhaps the best Saint Estèphe this year.” He scored the wine 93-95 in-barrel. James Suckling gave the wine a rating of 93-94. He described the 2015 as having “velvety tannins” and a “clean finish”, offering “spices” and “depth”.
The 2015 is the highest priced wine of all recent vintages apart from the 100-point 2009 and 2010. Buyers looking for value may be attracted to the 95-97 point 2014 available at £840. Likewise, the 94-point 2005 is available at £875 and the 95-point 2008 is available at £640.
