Palmer 2015 was released today at €210 per bottle ex-negociant, up 31.3% on the 2014 (€160). It is being offered by merchants for £2,250 per 12×75, up 50% on the 2014’s release (£1,500).
Palmer 2015 received almost unanimously good scores from the critics. The highest praise came from James Suckling, who scored it 99-100 and described it as “the making of the new 1961”. Neal Martin warned that “those who like the more showy Palmer might not warm to this 2015”, but added that it had “real class and sophistication” and scored it 95-97. Liv-ex merchants also approved of the wine, voting it their 8th favourite of the vintage.
At £2,250 per 12×75, Palmer 2015 is the same price as the 2010, scored 96+ by Martin last month and 98+ by Robert Parker in 2013. The 2010, interestingly, was initially released at £2,400 per 12×75 and has moved little since then. Buyers seeking a Palmer of similar quality might do well to look to the 2011 or 2012, both 96 points in bottle and available at a 29% discount to the new release.
