After tentative price movement in the first half of September, First Growth trade picked up momentum last week, pushing the Liv-ex Claret Chip Index to a new high of 374.11. The index climbed 1.37% on the previous week – its most rapid week-on-week rise since May – and 2.3% month-to-date.
Mouton has seen the most noteable price movement in the last few days, led by the 2005 vintage, which traded at £5,100 per case on Friday. Lafite 2000 and Latour 2004 also saw a surge in demand last week, whilst Haut Brion failed to keep pace with the rest of the First Growths.
