Echezeaux 1990

US President Barack Obama's visit to London got off to a splashing start last week. According to Decanter, guests present at the state banquet at Buckingham Palace last Tuesday were treated to a lavish spread of still and sparkling wines – including Echezeaux 1990. As well as the DRC on offer, the 170 dignitaries, politicians and celebrities in attendance were served Fevre Chablis Les Clos 2004, Veuve Clicquot Rich 2002 and (homegrown) Ridgeview 2004 Cuvee Merret Fitzrovia Rosé.

Based on current trading prices, a single bottle of Echezeaux 1990 is changing hands at £620. So assuming that enough Echezeaux was provided for guests to enjoy at least two glasses each, the DRC alone would have been worth around £53,000. Add to this the Fevre Chablis Les Clos and Veuve Clicquot Rich - valued at £485 and £510 per case respectively – and it's little wonder guests raised a glass to the queen.
