Marchesi Antinori’s Solaia 2021 has been offered with a recommended release price of £3,240 per 12×75. This is 15.7% above the release price of the 2020, which was offered at c.£2,800 per 12×75.

Critical response
Monica Larner (The Wine Advocate) described the 2021 vintage of Solaia as ‘a monument to perfect winemaking’, awarding it a score of 97 points. According to her, it is a wine of ‘lasting power’ offering ‘generous depth and layering with soft tannin’.
Antonio Galloni (Vinous) tasted the wine in both February and June of this year, both times awarding it a perfect 100-point score. He adds that the 2021 vintage is a ‘fine example of the style Antinori favors these days, an approach that favors finesse over oppulence’.
Pricing analysis
According to Liv-ex’s ‘Fair Value’ methodology, Market Prices of Solaia are correlated with Wine Advocate scores (65.3%). As shown in the chart below, any release price in excess of £2,700 per case pushes the 2021 over the fair value line. At £3,240 per 12×75, the new release sits firmly above it.
In contrast, the 2018 and 2019 vintages, both with 97-point scores, fall on or below the Fair Value line, presenting a compelling option for buyers looking for value.
