Critical response
Antonio Galloni (Vinous) was effusive in his praise for the 2023 Château Giscours, calling the wine a ‘towering, majestic Margaux’, and ‘the best wine [he has] ever tasted here’. He awarded a barrel score of 96-98 points.
By contrast, Neal Martin (Vinous) gave the wine a score of 90-92. While the critic ‘admires its linearity and classicism’, he adds that the 2023 ‘is not a powerful Giscours and doesn’t quite have the persistence of the previous vintage’.
Jane Anson gave the wine a score of 95 points, calling it ‘inky and expertly constructed’, and adding that 2023 was ‘clearly an excellent vintage at Giscours’.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) called the 2023 Giscours ‘very alluring’, describing notes of ‘blackcurrant jelly, kirsch, and black raspberries giving way to hints of lilacs, pencil lead, and mossy tree bark’. She awarded the wine a score of 93-95 points.
According to William Kelleye (The Wine Advocate), the wine is ‘one of the real successes of the vintage’. Awarding a score of 94-96 points, he called it ‘deep, layered, seamless and concentrated’.
