Château Clinet 2023 released en Primeur

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Clinet 2023 has been released at €57.6 per bottle ex-négociant, down 29.4% on the 2022 release (€81.60).

It is being offered by the international trade for £690 per 12×75, down 29.6% on the 2022’s opening price (£980 per 12×75).

Today’s release represents Fair Value. For buyers looking for alternatives, there are several options among back vintages. See more pricing analysis below.

Critical response

Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded the wine a barrel score of 93-95 points, calling the wine ‘delightful and composed’.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) called the 2023 Clinet a ‘modern, stylish Pomerol’, describing notes of ‘graphite, lavender, crushed rocks and pencil shavings that linger on the substantial finish’. He awarded a score range of 94-96 points.

‘A great quality Clinet, well-judged appellation typicity, and floral kick on the finish’, said Jane Anson, who gave the wine a score of 95 points.

William Kelley (The Wine Advocate) awarded a score of 94-95 points. He added that ‘as is routinely the case at this address’, the wine is ‘a successfully rendered Pomerol in a more modern style’.

‘Not the most concentrated Clinet but fresh and balanced’, said James Lawther MW (Jancis Robinson), awarding a score of 17/20 points.

Pricing analysis

According to the Liv-ex Fair Value methodology, Market Prices of Château Clinet are 71.8% correlated with scores from Neal Martin. As shown in the chart below, today’s release falls below the Fair Value line. For those able to secure an allocation, the 2023 offers Fair Value.

For those unable to secure an allocation today, the 2020 may be of interest. With a similar score from Neal Martin and two years in bottle, this may offer an alternative to today’s release. It also falls below the Fair Value line, available today at a slight premium of 4.2% to the 2023 (£720). The higher-scoring 2015 and 2018 also represent fair value but are available at a higher premium to today’s release.
