  • Château Climens 2023 has been released at a recommended UK selling price of £1,290 per 12×75.
  • ‘Opulent, precise and delicious’ said Jane Anson, who awarded the wine 96 points.
  • Buyers looking for value might want to consider the 2009, 2013 or 2015 vintages.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Climens 2023 has been released at a recommended retail price of £1,290 per 12×75, a 1.1% decrease on the 2022’s opening price (£1,305).

The past few years have been tumultuous for Château Climens. The estate did not produce any wine in 2017 nor 2021 due to frosts and challenging weather conditions. In 2018, the harvest was severely affected by mildew. In 2021, as reported by Decanter, the estate also announced a new majority owner

Today’s release is one of the most expensive vintages available on the market. Buyers looking for value opportunities may turn to the 2009, 2013 or 2015 vintages.

Critical response

Neal Martin (Vinous) decided not to score the 2023 En Primeur, instead opting to wait until the wine is bottled. He described the sample as ‘perplexing’ and said the wine feels ‘anonymous in a Sauternes vintage full of character’.

Jane Anson called the wine ‘opulent but precise and delicious’, giving it a score of 96 points.

Antonio Galloni (Vinous) awarded the wine a barrel score of 93-96 points and described it as ‘a wine of textural resonance’.
