As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Angelus 2023 has been released at €260 per bottle ex-négociant, down 25.7% on 2022’s opening price (€350 per bottle).
It is being offered by the international trade for £3,120 per 12×75, a 27.4% decrease from 2022 (£4,296 per 12×75).

Critical Response
The wine scored a barrel range of 94-96 points from both Antonio Galloni and Neal Martin (Vinous). The latter praises a ‘crisp and precise bouquet’, and ‘pleasant saline edge’, but notes that ‘it needs a little more persistency on the aftertaste’
Jane Anson scored the wine 96 points, calling it ‘beautifully measured, skillful and fragrant’.
William Kelley (Wine Advocate) calls this rendition of Angelus a ‘terrific effort that foregrounds the vintage and the terroir at their best’. He awarded a barrel score of 95-96 points.

Pricing analysis
While today’s release price is lower than last year’s, it is still one of the most expensive vintages on the market. There are some good value options in back-vintages.
Neal Martin awarded the 2016 vintage his joint-highest score of the decade, 97 points. It was last traded at £2,600 per 12×75, a 16.7% discount to today’s release, and may be of interest to buyers.
Buyers looking for more options in back-vintages may turn to the 2015 and 2019 vintages. They also received 97-point scores from Neal Martin and are available at a discount to today’s release.
