As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign Château Batailley 2023 has been released at €26 per bottle ex-négociant, an 11.9% decrease on the 2022 release (€29.50).

It is being offered by the international trade for £324 per 12×75, a 12.9% decrease on the 2022’s opening price (£372 a case).

At this price, the 94-point 2019 vintage and the 93-point 2020 and 2021 vintages provide value. See more pricing analysis below.

Critical Response

Few critics have yet to publish their scores for Bordeaux En Primeur 2023. We will be adding all scores to the critics grid as they are released — see it here, or sign up for release alerts to keep up-to-date.

James Suckling scored the wine a barrel range of 95-96 points, praising its ‘beautiful fruit’ and ‘long and racy finish’.

Pricing Analysis

This year’s vintage has been released at a discount to the 2022 vintage, which received the same score from James Suckling.

The 2019 vintage, receiving 94 points from Neal Martin, is available at only a slight premium to today’s release (£326 per 12×75), and benefits from a few extra years in bottle. Neal Martin is yet to release his scores this year, but a score of 94 points or less would make the 2019 an attractive opportunity.

Both the 2020 and the 2021 vintages are available at a discount to today’s release. Fans of Antonio Galloni (Vinous) may prefer the 2021 which received 94 points, as opposed to the 89 points which the critic awarded the 2020 vintage.
