Critics’ scores
Neal Martin (Vinous) scored the wine 92-94 points. In his tasting notes, he describes how “it opens extremely confidently in the glass” and goes on to call it “an outstanding Le Petit Mouton.”
Lisa Perrotti-Brown (The Wine Independent) gave it a barrel range of 92-94+ points and mentions in her tasting note that the wine ‘needs considerable swirling to unlock notes of creme de cassis, stewed plums, and black cherries, with hints of charcoal, wood smoke, black olives, and tar’.
Jane Anson awarded it a score of 95 points and said it is ‘one of the first wines that made me see the potential greatness of the vintage’.
According to Liv-ex’s ‘Fair Value methodology, Le Petit Mouton’s best correlation is with age rather than score (75.8%).
This means that vintages of Le Petit Mouton tend to rise in value with age, making younger vintages a good buying opportunity.
While today’s release is one of the cheapest available on the market, the lower-scoring 2021 is available at a 8.9% discount to the 2022. The 93-point 2020, which is now physical, is available at a Market Price of £2,261, a 3.0% premium to today’s release.
Buyers looking for value may also want to consider the 2019 vintage, which falls below the trend line.
