As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Valandraud 2022 has been released at €118 per bottle ex-négociant, up 18% on the 2021 release (€100 per bottle).
It is being offered by the international trade for £1,430 per 12×75, a 21.6% increase on the 2021’s opening price (£1,176 a case).
At this price, the 2015, 2016 and 2020 vintages look better value in relation to today’s release (as appropriate). See more pricing analysis below.
Critics’ scores
Neal Martin (Vinous) scored the wine 95-97 points. He mentions in his tasting notes that ‘this is a Valandraud with a V12 engine. It will need several years in bottle’.
James Suckling scored the wine a barrel range of 97-98 points. He said the wine was ‘very rich and flamboyant yet it remains bright and vivid with a lovely fine tannin structure running through the wine’.
Jean-Marc Quarin also praised the wine, awarding it 98-points. He said it was ‘very aromatic, fruity, ripe, subtle and slightly smoky nose’.
Fair Value analysis
Valandraud Market Prices are not significantly correlated to Neal Martin scores, the chosen critic for Liv-ex’s ‘Fair Value’ methodology
Today’s release is coming to the market at a premium to those currently available.
Buyers looking for value will want to consider the 2015 vintage, which was scored 98 points by Neal Martin, making it the highest-scoring Valandraud of the past decade. It is available at a 16.1% discount to today’s release.
The 96-point 2016 and 2020 also look attractive; they are available at a 17.4% and 22.6% discount to today’s release respectively.

Valandraud Blanc has also been released at €54 per bottle ex-négociant, up 12.5% on the 2021 release (€48).
Virginie de Valandraud has been released at €27.60 per bottle ex-négociant, and Virginie de Valandraud Blanc at €18 per bottle ex-négociant.
