As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Rauzan-Ségla 2022 has been released at €84 per bottle ex-négociant, up 40% on the 2021 release (€60).
It is being offered by the international trade for £1,010 per 12×75, up 40.3% on the 2021’s opening price (£720 per 12×75).
The new release comes at a premium to other vintages on the market. Buyers looking for value might consider the 2016, 2017, 2020 and 2021 vintages. See more pricing analysis below.
In this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur Survey, Liv-ex members ranked the 2022 Rauzan-Ségla second place among this year’s top 10 wines that offer value for money.
Critics’ scores
Neal Martin (Vinous) gave the wine a score of 95-97 points. He notes it ‘has an opulent bouquet’ but is ‘missing that knockout blow at the moment’.
William Kelley (Wine Advocate) awarded the wine a barrel range of 96-97 points, calling it a ‘charming wine, bursting with aromas’.
James Suckling gave the wine a score of 97-98 and called it ‘Brilliant’. He questions whether this might be ‘the 2016 plus more?’
Fair Value analysis
Using Liv-ex’s ‘Fair Value’ methodology, Rauzan-Ségla prices are 60% correlated to Neal Martin scores. At £1,010 per 12×75, the release is coming to the market above the price suggested by the fair value line, as seen on the chart below.
The 2016 and 2020 are both interesting. Both scored 96 points from Neal Martin (Vinous), with the latter described as ‘perfectly proportioned’ and ‘deeply impressive’. They are available at a discount of 16.8% and 21.5% respectively to today’s release.
The 2021 is also an interesting opportunity, holding a score of 95 from Neal Martin and available at a discount of 31.2% to the 2022.
The 2017 might be of interest to those looking for an entry point into a high-demand label. With 94 points from Neal Martin, it is currently available at a 52.5% discount to today’s release.
